Smell is possibly the most primal and emotionally evocative of your senses; certain fragrances/odors are inextricably linked with memories both good and bad. Certain ones can transport you vividly back in time: the perfume/cologne your mom or dad wore, the ubiquitous cooked cabbage aroma of granny’s house, pine resin from those mountain vacations… I grew up on the western prairies, and the sunny, hot August smell of an alfalfa field turns me 18 again (waaaaay back) – standing at the roadside with a backpack, thumb out for a ride, headed for the east coast. Good times. Read the rest of this entry »

We all see the commercials on TV about Viagra and Cialis, not to mention the spam e-mail we get on a daily basis, and yes to all of us men, male sexual activity is very important, no male wants to be in a situation that he under performs for his wife or special gal but it does happen. With daily stress in our lives from being overworked , putting in to many hours in the day, getting the kids to school and other daily tasks it takes a lot out of a guy. So when night time comes, many of us are just plain wiped out and sexual activity becomes difficult, which every man knows is not good. Read the rest of this entry »

Many men do not like discussing the woes of age, it seems that after the age of 50 things start going a bit south with the male reproductive organs, not in all men but in many , including erectile dysfunction but more than that, it seems that many men after the age of 60 are subject to prostate issues. I used to notice having a business on the second floor with a bathroom down the hall many elderly men would immediately once the bathroom was in sight where headed straight there. I mentioned to one client that the bathroom seemed to be a life saver, and he grinned and said , wait till you get to be my age. Read the rest of this entry »

Ever since time changed this year I have had problems sleeping. I usually go to bed around 10:00 pm but for whatever reason I seem to wake up around 1:00 am then I can not fall back to sleep, for whatever reason I have been paranoid of sleeping pills, since I always heard comments of people getting hooked on them. Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a “quick fix” for every ailment or disorder we humans are prone to? Today’s pharmaceutical industry would have you believe this is so, and I find it alarming how drug-dependent our society is becoming. For instance, have you ever tallied up the number of friends and acquaintances you have who are, or have been on anti-depressants? I was really startled at the results of my own impromptu survey – nearly all of them! Do I just have dysfunctional friends, or is this a disturbing trend? Read the rest of this entry »

About 3 months ago I read a lot of info on hydrogenated oils and the harmful effects those oils have on our body. Basically hydrogenated oils are bad, because they are chemically altered thus the human body does not know how to process them. So they tend to build up in places like our arteries which leads to cardiovascular disease and other ailments. Read the rest of this entry »

I normally have a cup of coffee every other day, the days I don’t, I drink a cup of herbal tea of some sort. This morning as I reached for my mint tea the box was empty. My wife suggested she had some sticks of cinnamon in a jar and asked if I wanted some Cinnamon tea with some honey , well hey why not , it actually tasted darn good, so after my tea, I decided to do a little research on cinnamon to see what other beneficial properties cinnamon had besides making a great tea. Does red rice yeast lower cholesterol ?
Doing some basic research, red yeast rice does lower cholesterol ,but there has been controversy from the FDA and the fact that some of the old packaged presentations of natural red yeast rice contained statins. Because of this ingredient the good old FDA decided to step in and regulate it. After all, pharmaceutical drugs that help lower cholesterol contain some sort of statins. Read the rest of this entry »

The other day I got to talking to an elderly friend of mine and he mentioned he was on his way to see his family doctor to get a flu shot. He asked if I had ever had one and I said no, he just kind of raised his eyebrows shrugged his shoulders and we left it at that. Read the rest of this entry »
