Yesterday I was reading a local publication or magazine published in my area,  one of the articles was talking about how vitamin C and vitamin E wont help prevent heart attaches in men, and that certain studies  have even shown that these supplements even  increased the risk. In a study performed by researchers at Brigham, Womens Hospital and Harvard medical school, they looked at the effects of Vitamin C and E this study lasted up to eight years, and according to the results of the study of 754 men over the age of 50 who had low risk of cardiovascular disease. Eight years later the study showed that 464 men had strokes and 511 had heart attacks and 509 cardiovascular deaths among the group. you can read the article here.

But someone is always going to criticize the fact that a natural substance is not beneficial, after all the pharmaceutical companies are the ones that have a vested interest. If we get sick we will then find the need to depend on prescription meds to lower blood pressure, cholesterol and other ailments, that otherwise herbal remedies and vitamin supplements could remedy.  Now by the same token, evidence has shown that eating more fruits and vegetables can lower the risk of certain cancers and cardiovascular problems. It is recommended that we eat plenty of leafy green leafy vegetables and fruits which of course  also have higher concentrations of vitamin B, C and E . So why would taking supplements not be any different?

Sometimes we just are not able to get the right nutrients in our diet and since we are not able to, there is actually nothing wrong with taking a dietary supplement, regardless of what some studies may say. In fact sometimes we should take vitamins or herbal supplements for our diet, remember supplements contain vitamins and minerals as well as herbs and botanical substances and actually prevent our body becoming weak and even help strengthen our bodies immune system.

So after reading that depressing article on why we should not be taking certain vitamins it does make you kind of wonder, but since traditional medicine has been around a lot longer than modern medicine techniques. I will continue to take my vitamin supplements and cure common health ailments with herbal products , there is an interesting site called the Office of dietary supplements which is part of the national institute of health, this website goes in to depth and answers many questions about herbal supplements vitamins and more , so if you don’t believe me on the advantages natural products can have, take a look at their site , then you can decide for yourself, after all its your body and your health.
