I recently posted a simple review on using puritans pride vitamin supplement during my weight loss program. I also mentioned that as time goes by I would be reviewing different products that I am currently trying out.
When growing up my mom used to bring home bags of prunes, when she did that I knew that meant that dad was constipated, now days you see advertisements for Metamucil and a ton of other laxatives that supposedly give you enough fiber and well… put simply, help you achieve good bowel movement.
So after seeing tons of herbal supplements on the market just to help achieve the above. I figured I would give Bowtrol a try. Why Bowtrol ? Well for one I can buy online, but mainly because I have read a lot of good and bad stuff on the net about Bowtrol and I wanted to see for myself. Originally Bowtrol just used to have one product, but they have now extended their product line in to three products, one is Bowtrol for sensitive digestion, the next is Bowtrol probiotic formula, and the other one is Bowtrol colon cleanse. So today is officially the last day of week two of my diet, I lost a whole pound, now having said that I was able to easily buckle my belt one more notch, which is encouraging, after all is it all about weight or waist size, I am thinking a bit of both after all this is all about three things ,I mean how many times do people say , Oh you look so good ! but do we really feel good. Tomorrow I jump on the scale to see if there is any weight loss on week two. I must admit that sometimes eating the right stuff on a daily basis can get monotonous. I am going to prove to myself and others that a little determination goes a long way, although I did splurge some on the weekend, but what I am finding is that its not about dieting, its about eating the correct foods and eating normal quantities, I have been staying pretty strict on my breakfasts eating a bowl of either Special K cereal or corn flakes or varying things with oatmeal, adding fruits such as a banana or strawberries. Many women at some point in time begin to experience certain kinds of PMS including bloating, mood swings, depression, tender breasts hot flashes and other unconformable symptoms, women can have these symptoms early in life
Evening primrose has also been used since the early 1900′s for certain skin conditions such as eczema which can cause the skin to become itchy and inflamed, other uses include arthritis and recently evening primrose has been used to treat some forms of cancer and diabetes.
As always there are many contradicting studies, that evening primrose does not help in many areas , but it seems with most herbal remedies and supplements there is always contradictions. But by the same token, many women actively include evening primrose in their diet to supplement their health. Read the rest of this entry »

This week is almost a second week of my diet or actually eating the right things, I have been really busy this last week but have been able to keep my sanity, and pretty much stay on track with eating the proper foods, this weekend however I did drink a few beers more than normal and had some whole wheat bread, but by the same token I managed to exercise every day this week, along with taking some supplements from puritans pride I seem to have maintained my energy levels better than the week before. We shall see what the scale says on tuesday, so stay tuned.

I usually write about the good and bad of herbal supplements and I have always been raised taking as much natural stuff as possible, but there is always positive and negative out there on why many people have switched to modern medicine practices and using pharmaceutical medicines over herbal alternatives I do not know. Now having said that I am not knocking prescription drugs, but I would like to share a friends personal experience with modern medicine. Read the rest of this entry »

I had ordered Puritans pride vitamins in the past and was really impressed with the quality of their products, plus they offer a huge variety of herbal and vitamin supplements not only for us humans but for pets also, since I was kind of short on cash, this month I ordered a supplement that me and the wife could take to meet our similar needs, the price was right. I bought the two bottle special, so if you bought two bottles you received a third bottle free since me and the wife are splitting the bottle I figured I would go ahead an get enough for it to last me and her for at least a couple of months. so for less than $30.00 U.S.D I had three bottles shipped. So you may have followed a few of my posts on my weight loss, and after a week of being pretty steady I am looking for something to give me a little bit more of an edge and more energy, when dieting or changing our eating habits it can be a shock to the system maybe its not all physical , but maybe a big portion could also be psychological, this is where supplements and vitamins come in to the picture.
You will read all kinds of pros and cons of vitamins and supplements, some saying they work some saying they don’t, my grandma always ate well, but always took some kind of supplements, especially after she got older, she lived to be 96 years old, many say its in the genes, but grandma did not have a clean life she drank and smoked but also did yard work and walked when she could. Today I weighed in with only minor success, I lost just under 2 pounds. I am only going to post every few days or so to update my progress, remember keeping in mind that I am sticking for the most part to my diet, once again not eating any bread and staying away as much as I can from starches, last week I mainly ate 2 main meals a day breakfast and Dinner, lunch ended up being a snack , some walnuts peanuts or pecans, nothing dry roasted and nothing salted, breakfast was simply either oatmeal or special K cereal with a banana, dinner was chicken or fish with some veggies and a salad and some whole grain rice.
This week however I am going to start breakfast out with nothing but fresh fruit, papaya , apples and bananas with some soy milk and stick with my dinner plan, which is either chicken or fish in moderate proportions with a green salad, preferably with Romain lettuce and spinach and some vegetables and a small portion of whole grain rice. My salad dressing will continue to be just some simple apple cider vinegar mixed with a bit of olive oil and some ground pepper, sprinkled with some feta cheese.
After a week of eating well and moderately working out, I feel much stronger now and have been able to increase my morning jog, and have started to increase the intensity of my weight training, adding more weight plusdoing 3 sets of 15 push ups and 3 sets of abdominal crunches. So overall after a week I am doing more and feeling better and stronger, my workout is not consuming all of my energy in the day.
