Anything Healthy or Not April 11th, 2009
Recently I wrote an article on 5 things that kill and topping the chart was high blood pressure, lack of exercise, and excessive alcohol consumption can cause high blood pressure, and of course the first thing that happens is we go see a doctor and later we walk out with a bag full of prescription medications. Although these meds will help, the unfortunate thing about these medications is that they only treat the symptoms and not the cause.
Did you know that there are herbal supplements or alternative remedies that can help control blood pressure ? Well there are, and many people have been using them for many years with complete success.
Hawthorn is an herb that has been proven to treat and lower blood pressure, there was a study done buy a research group in Reading, Uk and what they found was that in 79 patients who suffered from type 2 diabetes, at the the end of the study the people taking the hawthorn showed a considerable drop overall in blood pressure levels.
Fish oils and Chia seeds because fish oils contain DHA (docohexaenoic acid) fish oil also contains EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) both these ingredients have been shown to lower high blood pressure levels. Another product that contains DHA are chia seeds, so all these years that people where spreading those seeds on a clay animal they should have been sprinkling them on salads.
Folic acid Folate is just vitamin B which is necessary in the formation of healthy red blood cells, and may help lower high blood pressure in some people. A small study of 24 people that where smokers found that after 4 weeks of supplementing their diet with folic acid that their blood pressure levels dropped significantly.
Garlic has also been proven to be a strong aid in fighting or lowering blood pressure, make sure you do not overdue the garlic if you are taking prescription medications as garlic can thin the blood just as aspirin so make sure before considering any kind of herbal therapy consult your doctor.
