Yeast infections have become common amongst people living in big towns and cities who are leading busy lives. It is believed by doctors that 90% of the women have been victims of a yeast infection at least once. Infections affecting the nail beds are the commonest types of yeast infections like various skin infections, nappy rash and vaginal infections. The root of these infections could be diet, a certain medication or even a person’s lifestyle.
Most women prefer to pick up quick-fix medications, but the home remedies are by far better and long-lasting. Above all, they have no side effects. Home remedies not only cure yeast infection, but can be used as a preventive measure for it.
There are some simple home remedies which can arrest the yeast bacteria immediately. Apple cider vinegar or vinegar concentration can be daubed in the areas which have the infection. The concentrate can be diluted with water. If there is an itchy feeling, a bit of garlic can be added to the vinegar.
Yogurt or curd is one of the best home remedies. For an infection in the vagina, a tampon can be soaked in curds and placed in the infected area for about an hour. In the process the bacteria from the curd replaces the unhealthy yeast bacteria. The procedure could be repeated twice or thrice a day.
Even drinking buttermilk or eating curds as a part of the daily diet will help to combat yeast infection. It is in any case extremely good for prevention. Olive leaf extract with grapefruit seed extraction mixed in a glass of water can also help to cure yeast infection.
Probiotics is considered a natural remedy for yeast infection. These live microbial organisms are already present in the digestive tract and vagina. The presence of probiotics automatically ensures no growth of potentially harmful organisms which are responsible for yeast infection. Probiotics can be taken orally or as vaginal suppositories.
Like probiotics boric acid suppositories are not exactly a home remedy, because they require a prescription and have to be bought from a pharmacy. The tea tree oil is also considered a natural home remedy. It is important to dilute tea tree oil and apply it topically to the vaginal area.
The best way to prevent any yeast infection from entering the body is to keep it always dry. Bubble baths, soaking your body in soapy water or even using wipes and sprays could affect the vagina. Use cotton underwear, loose-fitting clothes which help your body to breathe rather than synthetic and tight-fitting non-breathable materials. Do not wear such clothes for a long period of time. Whenever you perspire heavily during sport or swimming, try and get out of the wet clothes as soon as possible. A condom during sexual intercourse can prevent the yeast infection to spread to your partner.
Educate yourself about yeast infections, because it can be easily prevented and if it occurs there are many natural cures even before you consult your doctor.
