My mother just turned 80 the other day and she does not look a day older than 60, she is always looking for better ways to stay in shape, she walks daily, still lifts light weights, and generally eats very healthy, she does love her white and red wine. In any case this weekend she looked better than I had seen her in a while, and I made the comment to her and she thanked me, I said it must be the white wine, she smiled and said either that or the turmeric, apparently a friend also of older age had mentioned taking a tablespoon of turmeric in the morning with a half glass of water, and that she had also used it frequently in cooking. So I decided to do a little bit of research on turmeric or also known as curcumin.
So what is it good for besides cooking ?
Turmeric (Curcumin) has been used for years in Southern asia as an antiseptics and for treating cuts, bruises and even burns, it has also been used in asian countries to treat stomach disorders and indigestion, in fact Pakistanis use turmeric for its anti inflammatory properties and the ability to remedy gastrointestinal comfort, including irritable bowel syndrome. In fact Turmeric (Curcumin) has been used in the treatment of anorexia, liver disease and has even been used in the aid to lower cholesterol. Read the rest of this entry »
The other day a bunch of us were having a discussion on how much water the human body really needs, I rarely drink the recommended allowance except during the summer months or when doing physical activities, You always see people who are running or jogging carrying along their bottle of water, but that’s not something I have ever needed to do. Maybe others do become dehydrated quicker and need that bottle of water to sip on throughout the day.
What I found out about drinking water
The concentration of liquid or water in the human body is anywhere from 52% to 80%, this all depends on the body size, for the human body to function properly we need to consume anywhere from 1 to 7 liters of water per day.
No one can really say how much water intake is needed but many advocates say that six or seven glasses a day others say that 2 glasses a day is is the minimum to stay properly hydrated. Although medical figures claim you need less, usually one liter per day. However common sense says that if you are doing heavy work outside , exercising in extreme heat water consumption should naturally be more.
You can overdue water intake as there have been cases of people becoming intoxicated by ingesting excess amounts of water, in fact there was just a recent case last year in the U.K of a person who died from excess water consumption.
To keep our body hydrated we do not necessarily need to consume water itself as we can obtain hydration from eating fruits and vegetables, teas and other sources of liquid.
As you can see hydration is important but not to the point of guzzling the seven to eight liters that is recommended daily, in any case I will just continue to keep my self hydrated as usual, which is usually when I’m thirsty.
Provillus is a natural hair treatment product that can be used by both men and women, there is a site called baldingblog.com that I was looking at the other day and it was truly a riot reading some of the comments, in fact many comments were by people who have never used provillus. You can read more here http://www.baldingblog.com/2005/12/16/provillus but I truly found the comments amusing, some people were complaining about buying a 6 month supply of provillus and it not working, but if you are skeptical about any product why would you not buy a one month supply to try it first. Recently I wrote an article on 5 things that kill and topping the chart was high blood pressure, lack of exercise, and excessive alcohol consumption can cause high blood pressure, and of course the first thing that happens is we go see a doctor and later we walk out with a bag full of prescription medications. Although these meds will help, the unfortunate thing about these medications is that they only treat the symptoms and not the cause. Read the rest of this entry »
