Posted by admin on February 24th, 2009

So today is officially the last day of week two of my diet, I lost a whole pound, now having said that I was able to easily buckle my belt one more notch, which is encouraging, after all is it all about weight or waist size, I am thinking a bit of both after all this is all about three things ,I mean how many times do people say , Oh you look so good ! but do we really feel good. Week two update

Posted by admin on February 24th, 2009

Tomorrow I jump on the scale to see if there is any weight loss on week two. I must admit that sometimes eating the right stuff on a daily basis can get monotonous. I am going to prove to myself and others that a little determination goes a long way,  although I did splurge some on the weekend, but what I am finding is that its not about dieting, its about eating the correct foods and eating normal quantities, I have been staying pretty strict on my breakfasts eating a bowl of either Special K cereal or corn flakes or varying things with oatmeal, adding fruits such as a banana or strawberries. Week two

Posted by admin on February 22nd, 2009

This week is almost a second week of my diet or actually eating the right things, I have been really busy this last week but have been able to keep my sanity, and pretty much stay on track with eating the proper foods, this weekend however I did drink a few beers more than normal and had some whole wheat bread, but by the same token I managed to exercise every day this week, along with taking some supplements from puritans pride I seem to have maintained my energy levels better than the week before. We shall see what the scale says on tuesday, so stay tuned.

Weekly report

Posted by admin on February 17th, 2009

Today I weighed in with only minor success, I lost just under 2 pounds. I am only going to post every few days or so to update my progress, remember keeping in mind that I am sticking for the most part to my diet, once again not eating any bread and staying away as much as I can from starches, last week I mainly ate 2 main meals a day breakfast and Dinner, lunch ended up being a snack , some walnuts peanuts or pecans, nothing dry roasted and nothing salted, breakfast was simply either oatmeal or special K cereal with a banana, dinner was chicken or fish with some veggies and a salad and some whole grain rice.

This week however I am going to start breakfast out with nothing but fresh fruit, papaya , apples and  bananas with some soy milk and stick with my dinner plan, which is either chicken or fish in moderate proportions with a green salad, preferably with Romain lettuce and spinach and some vegetables and a small portion of whole grain rice. My salad dressing will continue to be just some simple apple cider vinegar mixed with a bit of olive oil and some ground pepper, sprinkled with some feta cheese.

After a week of eating well and moderately working out, I feel much stronger now and have been able to increase my morning jog, and have started to increase the intensity of my weight training, adding more weight plusdoing 3 sets of 15 push ups and 3 sets of abdominal crunches. So overall after a week I am doing more and feeling better and stronger, my workout is not consuming all of my energy in the day.

The weekend

Posted by admin on February 16th, 2009

Over the weekend I totally misbehaved myself, on Saturday some Mexican friends of my wife’s invited us  to a sweet sixteen party or quincianiera, so needless to say when it comes to traditions the Mexican people know how to  have a good time, thus the diet goes out the window today, they served a huge variety of food some healthy some not, like Nopales “fresh cactus” with sliced onion and tomatoes, guacamole , beans, sopes and traditional tacos with hand made corn tortillas , I tried to stay within my limits with a few tequilas to wash it down, but it was tough. On Sunday I kind of straightened things out eating some fresh beef stew with lots of veggies that my wife cooked up, so it was not a complete wash. It was probably not as healthy as it could have been, one thing though I did though is jog three miles on Saturday and did some weight lifting.

One thing I want ot stress here is exercise, I was reading an article over the weekend about positive thought end enjoying what you do including exercise, if you exercise with negativity it can actual do more harm than good.  I personally dont love to jog but I do not totally dislike it, its hard now but it has become a little easier, so make sure you do something you like even if just for 35 to forty minutes at least three or four days  a week, tenis , raquet ball , swimming , aerobics anything that will help burn a few calories , this will help the weigh come off a little quicker.

Day six

Posted by admin on February 13th, 2009

Today the morning started out a little shitty, number one, another sleepless night,  why  I do not know, there’s no stress going on in my life , I ate some good food and plus I ate early, maybe its the full moon, who knows, in any case I did not go to either walk or jog although I had good intentions, we all know where the good intentions take us. Day five

Posted by admin on February 12th, 2009

Wow today I woke up with a bunch of energy, don’t know if it was the salad last night or what, but I felt great , I’m really looking forward to my weigh in next week, although the weekend could be a little turbulent, weekends for me are hard , a little more time on my hands and of course more time to think of what to eat.

This morning I went for my usual jog I walked my to miles and jogged the other two and a half , it was rough but seems to get easier, in fact I still had enough energy to ride my cheap stationary bike for 20 minutes  40 minutes of light  weight training, this I know will help, in theory, the more muscle we have the more calories are burned. Day three

Posted by admin on February 10th, 2009

This morning my alarm woke me up at 5:30, I had awakened earlier dreading the alarm, mainly because as I mentioned in my post before that I probably would not  sleep well, because of eating to much for dinner, plus I ate after  6 o’clock.  I may have gotten away with the extra portion if I had eaten earlier.

This morning I added an extra half mile to my already 4 1/2 mile walk. After my walk I came home and did 3 sets of reverse ab crunches and 3 sets of 15 dumbell lunges and 3 sets of 15 dumbell shoulder exercises. Right now I am just using light weight, I have a simple weight bench at home with some cast iron weights and dumbbells, nothing fancy I just want to make sure as I am losing weight that I can kind of keep my muscles toned ,  my over all weight loss goal is to lose weight slow and naturally. Day two of my weight loss

Posted by admin on February 9th, 2009

So Although I say I am not dieting , once you start the quest to lose weight, it finally hits you, you know deep inside that fat causes fat so we need to eliminate it as much as possible out of our diet, after all if we are overweight then the less fat the better , our bodies need a certain amount of fat but right now in my case I need to eliminate as much fat from my diet as possible. Breakfast

This morning I had my first semi healthy breakfast which consisted of 1 cup of Special K cereal a half banana sliced up and 3/4 cup of skim milk and a 6 0z glass of orange juice.  so it was pretty basic , the hard thing was taking the kids to the movies today and skipping the popcorn and soda but hey you definitely feel better after.

So instead of eating lunch because I was not really hungry,  I just had about 4 ounces of mixed unsalted nuts. Read the rest of this entry »
