It seems that in today’s world everyone everywhere is feeling stress and for the most part everyone will tell you it’s too much. Well to tell the truth a little bit of stress in your life is necessary. It keeps us motivated and keeps things moving. Too much stress in anyone’s life is bound to be a bad thing but with everyone being different how much is too much?
When the stress in your life keeps you from what would be considered a normal level of functioning then it’s too much. That makes it a very personal call but here are a few helpful tips to help get a handle on it. Different methods work with different people but these aren’t a bad place to start.
Eating a healthy well balanced diet is probably number one on the list. It’s very hard to face the trials of the day when we ourselves are not at our level best. This means getting enough fruits and vegetables and keeping that desire for fast food under control.
Getting some aerobic exercise is a real help. Working out at the gym, running on treadmill or just going for long walks can alleviate a lot of stress. Better yet find a buddy to walk with. The conversation is all the better and the truth is when we walk with a friend we are apt to walk more and longer.
Avoid Alcohol to the best of your ability. When you are feeling stressed it is so easy just to reach for a drink and drown the current stressor. This can quickly become a crutch and develop into a larger problem than whatever has you stressed.
Get outside whenever you can. Fresh air and sunshine can do wonders for a stressful day. A little activity in the open air can improve your mood and attitude. Your family may thank you for it.
Aromatherapy can do more than the average person thinks. The sense of smell is an incredibly powerful thing. Some lavender oil in a bath or a even a sprits or so on a cloth that you can breathe in from time to time.
This is a big one. You need to commune with your inner 5 year old. It’s totally okay just to cut
loose and some fun. Color, paint, draw, ride your bike, shoot some hoops, throw some Frisbee in the park. Sometimes along with busting the stress we have to eliminate the some of the adult seriousness too.
Keep it real. The goals you set for yourself should be actually attainable. The timetable you set for yourself should be able to be met without being the Flash. As much as people would like to say otherwise often times we push ourselves far more than other people ever would. Stop that. Seriously, learn how to say NO, do it well and do it often. Making sure everyone is happy with us and likes us is probably one of the biggest reasons for stress there is. They will get over it and you will be all the healthier. |
