What's in a Beer besides it's alcohol content? I love beer so I decided to write a little snippet on it's health and nutritional benefits.
1 - An average beer contains around 145 Calories; those calories can be burned off with a 45 minute moderate paced walk.
2 - A 12 0z beer has the nutritional equivalent of 2 oz of beef or 2 slices of whole wheat bread or 3 oz of cooked beans.
3 - Beer is a source of vitamin B complex such as riboflavin and niacin. Beer also contains calcium, folate, zinc and phosphorus. Moderate consumption of beer replenishes rehydrates and balances the bodies salt levels, it also increases good cholesterol or HDL,high-density lipoprotein.
4 - If you compare A 12 oz of glass ofbeer and a 12 oz glass of milk you will find milk has 148 calories versus a Beer which has 145 calories, beer has 18 mg of sodium compared to milks 120 mg of sodium, beer has no fat and no cholesterol milk has 5 grams of fat and 34 mg of cholesterol.
5 - The Alcohol in beer helps the blood move more freely, preventing clots which can lead to heart attacks and strokes.
6 - The moderate consumption of beer does not destroy brain cells on the contrary beer has been associated with improved cognitive mental function.
7- Studies have found that in Women that drinking beer in moderation may also improve bone density.
8 -Beer helps prevent cell damage that can possibly lead to cancer development and heart disease. The ingredients to make beer which are hops and barley are sources of antioxidants. Beer Also contains levels of polyphenols which are the same antioxidants found in fruits vegetables and black and green tea. Dark beers lagers and ales generally contain more antioxidants than do light or non alcoholic beers.
9- Beer causes a beer belly , well actually no. Beer contains no fat most people who drink beer dont gain the weight because of the beer but because of the food that goes with it , chips nuts, greasy snacks etc.
