Whenever anyone advises you on keeping good health, the words are familiar: eat healthy; do adequate exercise; change lifestyle. But anyone who is serious about losing weight or even just keeping healthy, these words can be rather vague. In today's fast paced living, we need to know exactly what to do, and when to nourish our body and mind, so that we are energetic, we can reduce fat, have an improved immune system and generally live life happily in sound health and mind. Here are some nutrition tips for a healthy body as well as a healthy mind:

1)      Instead of going for fad or starvation diets, it is better to improve your eating habits which have a positive impact on your body and mind. Your foods actually decide how you look, feel and go about living life.

2)      Focus more on fruits and vegetables rather than fried, processed and caffeinated drinks.

3)      Remember that your body needs nourishing food rather than simply filling up your stomach with sugar-filled calories. To make your body systems function optimally, you need to help it with nourishing foods with every meal.

4)      Try to reduce stress as much as possible. It is understood that modern living can not be stress-free but there are various ways to calm your mind and body like yoga, meditation, etc which help you to control stress better. The more you are relieved from stress, the more your body absorbs the nutrition you provide it with.

5)      Do away with foods which simply add to the calories and which do not have any nutritive value. These foods are soda, canned juices, energy drinks, coffee, etc. Having more calories than your body needs add to weight.

6)      Bring about healthy changes in your lifestyle gradually. If you have to give up smoking or consumption of alcohol, the more drastic and harsh you get with yourself, the more harm you are going to do and eventually you can not bring about any change. If necessary seek the help of support groups to achieve your goals.

7)      Falling victim to the various advertising gimmicks of fad diets is to be avoided. Remember eating carbohydrates, proteins or fats do not make you fat. When you eat more and not burn enough calories these are what make you fat. So it is harmful to cut down on these essential nutrients if you want to remain healthy.

8)      Do not gorge yourself in one meal. Instead eat small meals several times a day to stabilize your blood glucose levels. When your blood sugar is steady, it increases the energy and would also help you burn undesirable fat.

9)      When dining out, order your meals judiciously and this means that making sure that your meal contains some protein, carbohydrate as well as fat.

10)  Reduce intake of red meat and replace it with fish or lean meat. Reduce your oil intake also, as this increases the risk of  various heart ailments.

Following these nutrition tips could surely help you to remain healthy and fit for years to come.
