A few years back there was a publication about menopause and herbal remedies, essentially the article said that there was study done on menopause prevention and treatment with herbal remedies, 3 different measurement of black cohosh where administered to women to help prevent menopausal side effects and reduce hot flashes and other symptoms, the study was done over a period of 3, 6 and 12 months to women that where broken up in to different groups some where actually given black cohosh and others a placebo. At the end of the study they said there was no difference in reaction to the women given the placebo versus the women given the black cohosh. The bottom line is that herbal hormone therapy has been used long before any prescription medications had been on the market and it has worked. Some of the most common herbs and plants that have been used for treating menopause include. Licorice root which is mildly estrogenic and helps control hormonal fluctuations adrenal functions providing more energy to the body especially under stress, licorice root also serves as a mild laxative. Sage is also a mild estrogenic which in past studies has been shown to reduce hot flashes in most cases up to 50 %. Wild Mexican Yam The Mexican yam is found in over 200 prescriptions that contain its derivative, wild Mexican yam controls hormonal imbalance, regulates the menstrual cycle, relieves spasms helps with irregular periods, and even reduces cholesterol.
